The Barcelona-based Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) founded in March 1971 is a public university that specialises in the fields of architecture, engineering, merchant seamanship, economics, health sciences and applied mathematics. UPC is currently working in over 250 research lines, and has a very high and growing number of specific research centres and regional technology centres that focus their research on the demands of social players in specific areas and lines.

The Department Programa Innova at UPC, represented by
Prof. Viedma Marti, works in the field of Intellectual Capital management systems and IC benchmarking systems. Outside of education Mr. Marti is the president of "Intellectual Capital Management Systems Company", a founding partner of "M.A. Fusiones y Adquisiciones" (Mergers and acquisitions), the co-creator of the intellectual capital benchmarking system and the co-editor of the Intellectual Capital Market Journal.
