Wrap up
Patrick: A lot of the
questions you presented can be answered by Andy Wells in
your Methods Class at 3pm today. I will try to make an
initial response to some of the others.
As regards the dissertation, one of the things we’re trying
to do is to give you a chance to express yourself. The
guidelines for doing a dissertation are not mandatory. You
should explore this in conjunction with your supervisor. An
impotant aspect is how to tell the a good story which
integartes all the apsects of the material you present in
the your dissertation. There are many different ways to
tell a story and in many different contexts. This can be a
basis for detailed discussions with your supervisor. It is
also a time to plan a way to express yourself. Doing your
MSc Dissertation is a good opportunity to find a way of
working in dveloping and presenting your interests,
research findings and their implications.
About funding, there is no money available within the
Institute of Social Psychology to support doing the
dissertation itself, but if you’re working for a project,
you may be able to claim some money for the expenses
ionvolved, or to be paid as an occational research
assistant on the project you’re working for. This does not
always happen, sometimes an externally-funded reaerch
project has not got the funds (or permission) to pay for
your time or expenses, but can still offer a great
oppotunity for access to the fieldwork you need and a rich,
focused research context for your dissertation. Also, if
you are an working for an organisation to gain access for
your dissertation research, they may be able to support
you. Remember, you may have certain skills and knowledge
that they do not have internally, and which they may find
valuable.
Now it's time to finish. Thank you all
very much for coming,
and a special thanks to the Crew for making everything
happen.
