Tracks
There are many tracks in the Amfilissos
Area, connecting the villages and their material, cultural
and spiritual resources: springs and watering places,
groves, orchards and fields, churches and monasteries,
watermills and ports.
These tracks were made for mules transporting goods and are
often carefully paved, particularly in hilly terrain. As
mule transport gave way to carts and then motorized
vehicles, some of the tracks were upgraded to roads, others
became little used, but the heritage track network is still
largely intact. It still functions to connect the villages
in the area with the variety of resources that have been
important for their survival and prosperity over the
centuries. The tracks are a vital aspect of the flow grid,
and should not be blocked or eradicated as a result of
future developments.
