Introduction

“ The Path”

A skit presented with the aid of building blocks, marionettes, stuffed animals tells the story of a young woman and her journey from a great Master’s experience, initial failure to get a job and final success in her dream job. Symbolically the play used a dog to represent security and a snake to represent the fears and anxieties of the real worlds.

“Dreams can come true”

A skit using the actors as the narrator’s alter egos and exploring the various paths and choices available to them as they think about their research choices. The pulls of the movie glamour star, the mother Teresa figure and the academic expert are juxtaposed seamlessly. The narrator concludes that multiple and flexible identities are possible.

“The Circle Line”

Taking its name from one of London tube’s oldest line, this skit takes us through the moments experienced during Masters course: feelings of being lost, confused, part-time and the dissertation (in the guise of the grim reaper) are mediated through the white mask of tragedy and comedy.

“Patrick’s search for Kingdom”

A fairy tale about conquering the castle of academia, staring a little bear called Patrick and his friends Garrick and Gaskell. The friends stick together overcoming obstacles and eventually conquering the research and even making head of department!

“KPMG”

An allegorical skit involving the adventures of two friends, a monkey and a pig, seeking ways to survive: the monkey has to feed his family and the pig is trying to avoid being turned into a sausage. The camion appearance of some recognizable consultancies (‘Can’t Produce More Growth’ and ‘Monkinsey and Fowl’) and a very special genie and his SPSS consultant will be sure to bring a smile to your lips and tears to yours eyes.
